Altron were approached to supply 8m tilt-down towers for video analysis for the training ground at DRV PNK Stadium for Inter-Miami CL football team in Ft Lauderdale, Florida.

The area is a hurricane zone and the towers had to withstand hurricane force winds of 170 mph 3 second gusts (following the Florida building code) or 50.1 m/s mean hourly wind speed, which translates to a standard wind velocity of a wind speed of 200 mph

The requirement was for quite a high head load of four cameras and ancillary equipment.

We modelled our standard ANCT/8 tower for this wind speed using our in-house software. It was 50% overloaded, understandably (the UK maximum wind velocity is typically 110mph, so the Florida requirement is 82% higher). We then looked at adapting an extra heavy-duty tower from our ASST range – and propose our ASST/8/BP, which was able to withstand the loading.

There were existing screw pile foundations on site which the towers needed to fit, so we adapted the base plate of the mounting post to suit, providing justification for the base plate and fixing method.

The towers were shipped in a 20’ container in due course and installation was completed successfully as shown in the images below.
